I'm just kidding, of course....but imprinting occurs when you assume the role of the parent to young nestlings or fledgling birds. When you feed and handle them at this young an age, they associate you as their "momma" and they'll follow you around. This blue jay, Baby, let me handle her for a couple of months in the spring but doesn't let me anymore. She still talks to me with a distinctive call when she sees me- I love it.
