Update: Adventures in Composting
I have not built a fence around my compost yet. It will happen within the next month or so, I feel sure. For now, it is a literal pile of compost. And that suits me just fine.
My bigger problem was getting the compost to the pile. When you work from home, you accumulate vegetable scraps and such throughout the day......so what do you do with them without creating a fruit fly haven in your kitchen?
I'm obviously too lazy to drive four posts into the ground and surround it with chicken wire, so there's no way I'm going to run down to the compost pile three times a day.
So I bought a great little receptacle for my kitchen scraps last night from World Market. It is an enameled metal container with a tight-fitting lid.
My criteria for a compost bucket:
Tight-fitting lid
Non-porous (no plastic)
Shatter-proof (no ceramic or glass)
Somewhat attractive (aesthetics are important to me)
Dishwasher safe
For $14.99, done and done. And it is kind of adorable sitting there on the counter.
